An access log is a detailed list of all the files which were accessed by the guests of a given Internet site. Any file that was requested in some way will be listed, so if you have only one webpage with 3 embedded pictures, one video and one embedded text file, as an example, the access log shall contain a total of six entries - one for any of the 6 files that were accessed when the website visitor opened the webpage. A log typically offers the file name and path, the date, plus the visitor’s OS, browser and IP address. Occasionally you may also find the referrer websites that sent the visitors to your website. The info which an access log file provides is in human-readable plain text format. It can be processed by special software on a PC and used to write reports on the functionality of a website, aside from the web stats your web hosting server may have created.

Access Log Manager in Shared Website Hosting

Our custom-built Hepsia CP includes a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are among them. As you sign in to your shared website hosting account and visit this section, you'll find a list of all the domain names and subdomains which you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to press a button that'll be available next to every domain/subdomain. When the option is enabled, you will see a download link along with the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your laptop or computer and look at it or process it with some app. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect immediately, so if you no longer require one, you can stop it with simply a click from the very same section of the Control Panel. You'll still be able to access the already developed content by clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, it will not take more than several mouse clicks to permit the generation of access logs by our system if you require them. The feature can be enabled through the Hepsia web hosting Control Panel and this may be done individually for every single domain name or subdomain that you have within your account. Whenever you log in and navigate to the Access/Error Logs section of the CP, you will see a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to every one of them. A single click shall enable the log generation and a second one will disable it, so you can control this feature with great ease. A Download link in the same section will allow you to save the gathered content as a text file, which you could then use on your computer. Whether or not the logs are disabled, you'll still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
